Specialty Show Announcement

Information about our upcoming specialty show
Picture
We are holding our fall specialty show on Friday, October 28th at the Jim R Miller Park in Marietta (click for the Google map). This is an indoor event where the best examples of Cocker Spaniels compete to see which ones most closely conform to the breed standard. It is just like the Westminster show you watch on TV except you can see the dogs up close and in person. There will be other breeds competing at this location all weekend. If you like beautiful dogs, this event is for you. If you have a dog to show, the deadline to enter is October 12th.

Our show will include:
  • Puppy sweepstakes - Dogs between the ages of 6 and 12 months compete to see which ones most closely resemble the Cocker Spaniel breed standards. The winners earn no points towards their championship titles but acquire valuable practice and an opportunity to see which ones are most promising. The judge will be Dr. Jim Duncan.
  • Conformation competition - Dogs 6 months of age and older compete to see which ones most closely resemble the breed standard. The winners earn points towards their championship titles. The judge will be Laurie Duncan.
  • Junior showmanship competition - This event is for people between the ages of 9 and 18 years old to see which ones do the best job of presenting their dogs to the judge. The judge will be Dr. Jim Duncan.
  • Owner-handled dogs, veteran dogs, field dogs, stud dogs, brood bitches, cut-down, brace, parade of champions and title holders - See the premium list below for details.
  • Hands-on conformation education - Our judges are very accomplished breeders, handlers and judges. After judging, they will identify the dogs that best represent each attribute in the breed standard, explain what makes them good examples and allow the attendees to observe and put their hands on the dogs to feel the structure. This is an invaluable opportunity to improve our evaluation skills.

Other events include:
  • Microchip clinic - Saturday from 10am to 2pm. The cost is $35 and it will help you recover your pet if it becomes lost.
  • Dock Diving - Friday through Sunday, 9am to 5:30pm. See dogs leap off a dock, catch something mid-air and dive into the water. You can even let your dog try it with advanced registration and a small fee (see the details below).
  • Agility trials - Friday through Sunday. This is an athletic event run through an obstacle course against the clock. The Atlanta Obedience Club is conducting this event.
  • Conformation competitions - Saturday and Sunday. Dogs compete to see which ones most closely resemble their specific breed standards. Mr. Houston Clark is judging Cockers on Saturday. Dr Paul Averill is judging them on Sunday.
